A band on the up!

****

from remotegoat.co.uk

I have not seen Silent Alliance since earlier this year so I was looking forward to seeing how they had grown, and also now that they were five as opposed to four members the singer now handing over his guitar duties to a younger sibling.

I arrived a little before the second band to play and was interested in how the night was programmed with a name like Feeling Gloomy none of which I was feeling until Heavens Heathens hit the stage. Well words cannot describe how awful they were, and at one point I felt like I was watching a rerun of a particularly bad episode of Stars in their Eyes! They just seemed so out of place and had no star quality what so ever and this is going to sound harsh too but my local pub's Jazz band made up of men in their seventies have more talent! A shame because I am not one to critic so harshly and I always try to find something positive to say but I am afraid I can't in this case, sorry guys.

Finally came a light at the end of the tunnel and Silent Alliance were next up and I was so happy to at last see some real talented musicians who really did come across as though they loved their music and were passionate about what they were doing. The energy from their first song to their last, kept me engaged and wanting to hear more, this is pretty hard to do as I am often found to be wandering off to the bar or even the toilet in moments of not being quite sure.

The great thing also about this venue is it has a great sound system and in fact loud enough to perhaps warrant some ear plugs the next time. Which worked perfectly for the two guitars giving it a much bigger sound added with the warm rolling bass lines supplied by their female bass player.

It is so great to see a band's development over the course of some months and with a new line up which I feel has definitely added to their sound, freeing up the singer to be a true front man, flailing arms and gestures which often can be a little cheesy but in Silent Alliance's case not so.

If you get a chance to check these guys out then get yourself along to one of their up coming gigs, I am sure you won't be disappointed. It also wouldn't surprise me if they weren't snapped up and signed in the not too distant future.
